14-Year-Old Handball Player Dies in Ludhiana Scooter Accident

A 14-year-old handball player from Ludhiana named Anshika Rai died on Monday evening after falling from a scooter and being run over by a tractor-trailer on Jassian Road. The Class 9 student of Alpine School was traveling as a pillion passenger with a relative to attend a school practice session. She was scheduled to travel to Bathinda the following day to compete in a state-level handball tournament.
The Fatal Collision on Jassian Road
According to Jagatpuri police post in-charge ASI Sukhwinder Singh, the accident occurred near Bhalwan Da Dhaba on Monday evening. A motorcycle traveling from the opposite direction at high speed approached the area at the same time a tractor-trailer carrying bricks passed by. The tractor-trolley was moving from behind the scooter. When the vehicles came into close proximity, the drivers applied their brakes suddenly. Anshika lost her balance on the scooter, fell onto the road, and was crushed beneath the wheels of the heavy vehicle.
The victim’s family stated the brick-loaded trailer was carrying approximately 20 tons of weight. Anshika was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital. She suffered severe head injuries and passed away during treatment at the medical facility.
Preparations for the Bathinda State Meet
Anshika had been training for the upcoming state-level tournament organized in Bathinda. She was regarded as a promising player. Her sudden death left her family and schoolmates shocked.
Family details regarding the teenager include her father, Amit Rai, who works at a printing press to support the household, while her mother is a homemaker. She also leaves behind a younger brother who studies in Class 5, while other reports state her younger brother also studies in Class 9.
Police Investigation and Recovered Footage
Local law enforcement authorities responded to the scene following the crash. Police confirmed that closed-circuit television footage capturing the incident has been secured and taken into custody. Investigators are reviewing the video to determine the exact movements of the speeding motorcycle, the scooter, and the brick-laden tractor-trailer.
Police stated that an active inquiry remains underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.
