JUNAGADH, GUJARAT:

A horrifying incident unfolded at Gir Wildlife Sanctuary in Gujarat’s Junagadh district, where a 15-year-old boy named Vikram Chaudha was brutally attacked by a lion. The incident occurred on Friday, while the young boy was accompanying cattle near the sanctuary’s water source.

The unfortunate attack took place just as the lions were in the midst of their mating rituals, when Vikram inadvertently disrupted their proceedings. Provoked by the interruption, the formidable predator mercilessly pounced on the unsuspecting child from behind, causing grievous injuries.

Upon realizing the dire situation, onlookers swiftly reacted by making loud noises, prompting the lion to retreat and disappear into the safety of the forest. Forest department officials were promptly alerted, and they rushed to the scene to provide immediate assistance. Vikram was speedily transported to Vishwadar Health Centre, where medical professionals attended to his injuries, which required eight stitches on his thigh and back. Subsequently, he was transferred to Junagadh Municipal Hospital for further treatment.

Authorities are deeply concerned about the incident and the safety of visitors to the sanctuary, as such encounters with wild animals are understandably rare and alarming. An investigation into the matter has been initiated, aiming to ascertain the circumstances that led to this unfortunate encounter.
