On the 12th, Uniqlo started selling the ‘+J’ 2021 Fall/Winter (FW) product collection in collaboration with designer Jil Sander. There was a line again in front of the store. When the collaboration product with Japanese designer brand White Mountaineering was launched on the 15th of last month, it has been four weeks since a long line for an open run (running to shop as soon as the store door opens).

However, there were fewer people waiting than when the White Mountaineering collaboration product was launched. At the store, only some outerwear products were out of stock, so it seemed to be getting less attention compared to previous collaborations.

The mother-in-law, a woman in her 40s, who visited Uniqlo’s Gwanghwamun D-Tower store on the same day, said, “I waited for a cashmere coat before entering the store to buy a cashmere coat, but when I asked the staff, they said no products were available at this store.” I want to go,” he said.

Park Mo, who paid half in the morning and visited the store, said, “I saw the product design online, and I came to buy it because I thought the duffel coat would suit me. I stood in line,” he said.

Although consumers flocked, this collection had a different atmosphere from the previous White Mountaineering collaboration product launch, with only some coat products running out of stock quickly. Store visitors mainly looked around the outer racks and showed little interest in shirts, sweaters, and pants.

Yoon-mo (29, female), who entered the store in time for the opening time and eventually returned empty-handed, said, “I came to see a shirt that would be worn in winter among the +J collection products, but I did not purchase anything because the design was not unusual and there were no products that I was particularly attracted to.” said

Park Ha-jeong (31, female), who has previously purchased products from the +J collection, said, “I am satisfied with the products I have purchased in the past. .

Online reactions are similar. +J Collection products are also sold at Uniqlo’s online mall, but with the exception of some outerwear products such as cashmere and duffel coats, they are still in stock in the afternoon. This is in contrast to the fact that when the White Mountaineering collaboration product was released, a server error appeared and most of them, except for some fleece products, were sold out within two hours of launch.

The industry explained that unlike the White Mountaineering collaboration product, the Jil Sander collaboration product was less fresh and the consumer response was not as hot as expected.

A fashion industry official said, “This is not the first time for the Jil Sander collaboration collection, and the design is not very different from previous collections or other brand products, so fewer people would have to wait in line to buy it.” It seems to have been popular because it was possible to purchase products involving high-end brand designers at low prices,” he explained.

In fact, Uniqlo introduced a collection in collaboration with Jil Sander in 2009-2011 and last year as well. In particular, last year, the release of the ‘+J’ collaboration product was suspended for a long time, but it was re-released, so there was a lot of interest.

Products released this year at +J include outerwear, shirts, pants, and accessories. Women’s padding is sold in the range of 140,000 to 190,000 won, and the coat is sold at 240,000 to 290,000 won. Sweaters range in price from 50,000 won to 160,000 won. Cotton shirts are 40,000 won, silk blouses are 140,000 won, men’s down jackets are 90,000 won, oversized parkas are 190,000 won, and coats are 290,000 won. Shirts are priced at 40,000 won, and belts are priced at 30,000 won. Considering that the padding product of the ‘Jil Sander’ brand launched under his own name by Jil Sander is around 2 million won, the price of the collaboration product is very cheap.

A UNIQLO official said, “In the +J collection, each person can purchase only one piece of the same product in each color.”
