2023 South Korean Presidential Election Survey Results and Analysis: Lee Jae-myung Leads in Candidate Preference

In terms of candidate preference for the upcoming presidential election, Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung accounted for 27%, and People Power Party emergency committee chairman Han Dong-hoon accounted for 22%.

When asked who they thought was the best candidate for the upcoming presidential election, Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung received 27 percent and People Power Party Emergency Response Committee chairman Han Dong-hoon received 22 %.

Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo had a 7% favorability, former Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon had a 5% favorability, and Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon had a 4% favorability.

I was also asked if I would vote for a new party if it stood in the general election.

34% answered “yes” and 62% said “no”.

The younger the age, the higher the “yes” response rate, while the higher the age, the higher the “no” response rate.

By voting party, 29% of Democratic Party supporters and 20% of People Power Party supporters said they would be willing to vote for a new party, while among respondents who do not support any of the existing political parties, nearly half (49%) said they were willing to vote for a new party. ) appeared.

Among respondents who said they would vote for a new party, the percentage supporting the “Lee Jun-seok New Reform Party” was the highest at 33%, the “new party centered around Lee Nak-yeon.” was 14%, and the ‘Yong Hye-in Reform United New Party’ was 12%.

The linked proportional representation system adopted in the last general election has sparked controversy among satellite parties.

Regarding the law to prevent the creation of satellite political parties, as requested by some opposition party representatives, 51% of respondents said that it is necessary to prevent disputes over satellite political parties, and 32% responded that they should leave let the party decide whether or not to have a satellite political party.

This survey was commissioned by MBC from Korea Research and asked 1,005 people aged 18 and above nationwide through telephone interviews over two days on December 29 and 30 last year. The response rate was 10.4%, the confidence level was 95%, and the sampling error was ±3.1%P.
