(Paris = Yonhap News) Correspondent Hyeon Hye-ran = Health Minister Olivier Verand said on the 29th (local time) that more than 200,000 new cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) will be confirmed in France.

Reuters reported that Minister Verand, who appeared before the House of Representatives on the same day, said that 208,000 new people tested positive for the virus, a record high not only in France but also in Europe.

He added that the number of new cases is increasing at a rate of two per second.

France’s Ministry of Health said yesterday that 179,807 people have contracted the virus, a record high.

As of the 28th, France had 9,326,258 cumulative confirmed cases of COVID-19, the seventh-largest in the world, and the 12th highest in the world with 123,188 cumulative deaths.
