30 seconds of silence at the Academy Awards… Ukraine support sign

[시사뉴스 김백순 기자] The American Academy showed support and solidarity for Ukraine with silence and blue ribbons from attendees.

At the 94th Academy Awards ceremony held at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, USA, actors, film directors, and other awards ceremony participants expressed their support for Ukraine while silent for 30 seconds.

During the silence that began with Ukrainian actress Mila Kunis’ remarks in support of Ukraine, the organizers posted an appeal for Ukraine support on a large screen on stage.

In an appeal, the organizers said, “We would like to pause for a moment to show our support to the people of Ukraine who are currently facing aggression, conflict and prejudice. “The Ukrainian family is in need of food, medical care, drinking water and emergency services,” he said.

“With this lack of support, we can do more as a global community,” he said.

Some attendees wore blue and yellow ribbons, the colors of the Ukrainian flag, to the awards ceremony.

Hollywood actor Sean Penn also campaigned to allow former Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to speak at the awards ceremony.

On the other hand, actress Yoon Yeo-jeong, who won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress last year, took the award according to custom and made the audience laugh with her unique wit.

When she went on stage, “Looking at the names of the nominees for Best Supporting Actor. And I have to read this again. Please forgive me if I pronounce it incorrectly.” The audience burst into laughter.

Shortly thereafter, he called the deaf actor Troy Coacher in sign language as the winner of the Best Supporting Actor award.

‘Coda’, which depicts the warm story of a deaf family, won three awards including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Screenplay, becoming the main character of the Academy Awards.

It also set a record for being the first Academy Award winner for an online video streaming work.
