HighPoint’s Rocket 7604A Card Boosts Gen5 NVMe RAID Performance
HighPoint Technologies has released the Rocket 7604A RAID AIC, a PCIe Gen5 RAID card designed to convert four 8TB M.2 SSDs into a 32TB storage array. This configuration delivers speeds surpassing 50GB/s, creating one of the fastest SSD setups available for desktops.
the Rocket 7604A achieves its high performance using currently available Gen4 drives. Even when used with smaller SSDs, the card supports one of the fastest SSD configurations possible on a standard PCIe Gen5 slot. This makes it a compelling option for users seeking high-speed, high-capacity storage solutions.
The Rocket 7604A measures 167mm, a compact size compared to other 4-port Gen5 cards, which frequently enough reach 290mm or more. HighPoint engineers say they reduced the size without sacrificing thermal performance by using a self-contained cooling solution. This includes a full-length heatsink, a quite fan, and a network of sensors to maintain stable operation.
The cooling system prevents thermal throttling and supports sustained transfer rates, which are essential for demanding workloads. The card also features intelligent self-diagnostic tools, status alerts via LEDs and sound, and management through a WebGUI, command-line interface, and BIOS-level configuration.
HighPoint’s SafeStorage encryption protects data on all connected SSDs from unauthorized access. Both the Rocket 7604A and its sibling, the 1604A, are powered by Broadcom’s PEX89048 PCIe switch IC, providing four full x4 lanes of Gen5 bandwidth to each M.2 slot.
The RAID version costs $999, while the switch-only model is $899. A complete setup using four 8TB SSDs and the Rocket 7604A is projected to cost about $4,000.HighPoint says this pricing offers remarkable value by doubling the performance of conventional 4-port NVMe solutions, promoting broader adoption of Gen5 storage in high-demand computing environments.
What’s next
HighPoint anticipates that the Rocket 7604A will drive broader adoption of Gen5 NVMe RAID, offering users enhanced performance and security for demanding applications.
