70mai 4K A810S Dash Cam: New Sony Starvis 2 Sensor & Advanced Features

70mai has officially launched its latest dash camera, the 4K A810S, globally. The new camera builds upon the foundation of the 4K A810, released last year, offering significant improvements in both features and video quality. The A810S now captures video up to 4K/30fps, leveraging a Sony IMX678 sensor based on Sony’s latest Starvis 2 technology.

This is the same sensor found in 70mai’s premium 4K T800 dash camera, which delivers superior video quality. The A810S also introduces buffered emergency recording, a feature absent in its predecessor. This functionality provides up to three minutes of pre-collision recording and 30 seconds of post-impact footage, ensuring critical moments are captured even before an incident is officially registered by the camera.

Like other 70mai dash cams, the A810S incorporates 70mai’s night vision technology, designed to deliver enhanced clarity in low-light conditions. 70mai Lumi Vision further enhances visibility around the vehicle, even in near-total darkness, according to the company.

The dual-channel dash cam includes an integrated Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) feature, providing audible alerts for lane departure, vehicle distance monitoring, and pedestrian detection. Users can choose between the RC24 in-car rear camera or the RC23 exterior-mounted backup camera to complement the front camera, which records up to 1080p HDR/30fps.

Beyond these core features, the A810S supports GPS, a smart parking guardian mode, AI motion detection, time-lapse recording, 24-hour parking surveillance, multilingual voice control, and Wi-Fi 6 5 GHz connectivity for high-speed data transfers up to 40 MB/s. It also features a large 3-inch IPS LCD screen and app-based controls.

The 4K A810S represents a focused upgrade to an already capable dash cam. The inclusion of the Sony IMX678 Starvis 2 sensor, previously reserved for the higher-end T800 model, is a key improvement. Starvis 2 sensors are designed to improve low-light performance by increasing light sensitivity and reducing noise, resulting in clearer and more usable footage in challenging conditions. The addition of buffered recording is also a significant benefit, addressing a common criticism of earlier models – the potential to miss the initial moments of an incident.

The ADAS features, while not unique to 70mai, add another layer of safety and convenience. Lane departure warnings and forward collision alerts can provide valuable assistance to drivers, particularly on long journeys. However, it’s important to remember that ADAS systems are aids, not replacements for attentive driving.

The choice of rear camera options – an in-car unit or an exterior-mounted backup camera – provides flexibility for different user needs. The in-car camera is simpler to install, while the exterior camera offers a wider field of view and can function as a traditional backup camera. The Wi-Fi 6 support is a welcome addition, enabling faster transfer of large 4K video files to a smartphone or computer.

70mai’s proprietary MaiColor Vivid+ Solution™ is designed to adapt to varying lighting conditions, ensuring true 4K detail during backlit driving, tunnel transitions, or in inclement weather. This is a crucial feature, as many dash cams struggle to maintain image quality in these scenarios.

The 70mai 4K A810S is available now through the official 70mai store, with a starting price of $199. The company is currently experiencing shipping limitations to Australia and Canada due to the Spring Festival (February 13-24), but US shipping remains unaffected.
