Today (September 11) is the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attack in the United States. This incident is still deeply imprinted in the hearts of many Americans. On September 11, 2001, Betty Ann Ong, a 45-year-old Chinese-American flight attendant, boarded American Airlines Flight 11 on duty as usual, but was killed unexpectedly.

Deng Yuewei took a flight from Boston to Los Angeles 20 years ago today. She planned to go to Hawaii with her sister after finishing her duty. Unexpectedly, 14 minutes after taking off, the hijacked flight turned around to New York City. Fly away; the ground center received an emergency report from Deng Yuewei at this time, stating that there was no response from the cockpit of Flight 11 and someone was stabbed in the business class. “I think someone sprayed mace gas and we can’t breathe. I don’t. I know the actual situation, but I think we were hijacked.”

Although her report did not attract the attention of the ground crew at the first time, she repeatedly confirmed on the phone many times, missed precious time, and ultimately did not prevent the tragedy from happening, but thanks to Deng Yuewei and colleague Madeline Sweeney’s detailed report , The outside world knows the news of the hijacking, and the US authorities can quickly grasp the identity of the hijacker.

According to the New York Post, Deng Yuewei was born in a Chinese immigrant family in San Francisco. Her parents ran a grocery store in Chinatown and raised Deng Yuewei and four siblings. Invited to be a model, but due to family opposition and she likes to travel, she became a flight attendant.

Being courageous, kind, compassionate and not frightened is what most people who know Deng Yuewei would give her. She was also called the “heroine” in the 9/11 terrorist attack because she called the ground crew at the time of the incident and calmly reported the situation. At the memorial service for Deng Yuewei, American Airlines employee Nydia Gonzalez said to her family, “You have to be proud of Deng Yuewei. She calmly provided us with a lot of useful information.”

Afterwards, the Deng family hoped that American Airlines would release Deng Yuewei’s final call recording, but was rejected. They then asked Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy for help, and the recording file was exposed. The Deng family also said that although they heard the ground crew repeatedly asking Deng Yuewei the same The problem drove them crazy, but they were still happy that the voices of their family members were recorded.
