Dubai,UAE – The 9th Uganda-U.A.E Convention⁢ 2025 concluded successfully in Dubai on November 28, 2025, bringing together Ugandans from across the United Arab Emirates. The event focused on unity, patriotism, and collaborative efforts towards national development.

The convention was organized under⁢ the leadership of Michael Nuwagira,Vice National Chairman of‍ the⁣ Patriotic League of uganda (PLU),often known as​ “Uncle Michael Nuwagira ⁤(Toyota).” The‍ PLU aims ⁣to mobilize Ugandans both at home ⁤and abroad for national progress. Patriotic League of Uganda

President Yoweri kaguta Museveni was invited to be the Chief Guest but was unable to attend due to⁤ pre-existing national commitments.‍ A government delegation attended the closing ceremony in his ⁤stead, praising the⁢ organizers for a well-executed and impactful event that reinforced connections within the Ugandan diaspora.

The Ugandan Diaspora and National Development

The Ugandan diaspora represents a meaningful resource for ‌the⁤ country.Remittances from Ugandans living abroad are a crucial source of foreign exchange, contributing substantially to the national economy. In 2023,remittances totaled $1.6 billion USD, according to the Bank of uganda. ‍ The convention aimed to harness this potential further, encouraging investment and skills ⁣transfer.

The PLU, under Nuwagira’s leadership, has been‍ instrumental ‌in organizing these conventions, providing a platform for Ugandans in the diaspora to connect, share ideas, and ⁢contribute to national development initiatives. The organization focuses ​on fostering patriotism​ and promoting⁢ a sense ⁢of ​collective responsibility among Ugandans living abroad.

Government Support for Diaspora engagement

The Ugandan government recognizes the importance of engaging with its diaspora. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has established a diaspora desk dedicated to addressing the needs and concerns of Ugandans living abroad. ⁢ The government is also actively promoting investment opportunities in Uganda to attract diaspora investment.

The attendance of a government delegation at ‍the convention underscores the government’s commitment to fostering a strong relationship with ​the diaspora. The delegation reportedly conveyed President Museveni’s gratitude for the diaspora’s contributions and reiterated the government’s willingness to support diaspora-led initiatives.
