Ex-Detective: Key Evidence Found in madeleine McCann Search

Updated June 7, 2025

A former detective who participated in the 2007 search for Madeleine McCann believes German police have discovered “significant key evidence” in the case. Danie krugel, a South African private investigator who worked with the McCann family, suggests this evidence is linked to body language observations and the specific location of the recent search for Madeleine McCann.

Krugel told The Olive Press he is “quiet convinced” something was found, citing the focused search in three specific areas and the sudden halt to the operation. While neither Portuguese nor German authorities have commented, local media reports indicate that clothing and animal bones were recovered during the search near the Ocean Club resort in Praia da Luz, where madeleine disappeared May 3, 2007. The key evidence is now undergoing analysis in Germany, with no immediate announcements expected.

Gerry McCann, Madeleine’s father, enlisted Krugel’s help in june 2007. Krugel conducted tests using Madeleine’s hair samples.

Krugel said his tests pointed to the area near Praia da Luz, adding that the signal was static, indicating Madeleine was not moving. He expressed excitement that the Germans are in the right spot, hoping for justice for Madeleine.

I’m so happy they’ve finally been searching in the right place and looking at their body language. I’m quite convinced they found something they were looking for. They only looked in three specific areas with 30 people brought in from Germany and it seemed they stopped suddenly early.
