Turkey⁢ Detains 155 Suspected Migrant Smugglers ‌in Nationwide‍ Raids

Turkish security forces detained ‍155 individuals⁢ suspected of organizing migrant smuggling operations across 15 provinces over the past‍ two weeks,‌ according to Interior ‍Minister Ali Yerlikaya. The crackdown signals a heightened effort by Ankara to ⁢disrupt ​irregular migration networks.

Operations⁣ and Coordination

The operations, conducted between January 12 and january 26, ‌2024, were​ coordinated⁣ by ⁢the Gendarmerie ⁢General Command’s‍ department for combating migrant smuggling and human trafficking. Anadolu Agency reported that provincial ⁢gendarmerie units ​and commando teams provided support during the raids.

Raids took place in the following provinces: Aydın, Çanakkale, Edirne,⁣ Iğdır, İzmir, Kahramanmaraş, Kars, Kırklareli, Kırşehir, Kocaeli, ​Muğla, Sakarya, Şanlıurfa, Tekirdağ, and Van. The broad geographic scope of the operations indicates⁤ a nationwide ⁣effort⁤ to​ dismantle smuggling rings.
