Fiorentina President Rocco B. Commisso Dies at 76
Rocco B. Commisso, the president of Italian football club Fiorentina, has died, the club announced Friday. He was 76 years old.
The club released a statement on social media,saying Commisso passed away after a prolonged illness. His wife, Catherine, children Giuseppe and Marisa, and sisters Italia and Raffaelina, also announced his death.
Commisso was born in Marina di Gioiosa Ionica, in the province of Reggio Calabria, Italy. He emigrated to the United States with his mother and two sisters in 1961, joining his father, a carpenter, in Pennsylvania. The family later moved to New York.
He earned a degree in engineering from Columbia University, supported by a scholarship he received as a soccer player. Commisso went on to build a triumphant career as an entrepreneur.
