Nearly 40 people are dead and over 150 injured following the train accident in Aldamuz (Córdoba), a number that may rise as rescue efforts continue. Many families are still awaiting details about their loved ones. Huelva Hoy reports that journalist Óscar Toro and photographer María Clauss are among those missing. They were traveling on the Alvia train from Madrid to Huelva when it was struck by an Iryo train traveling between Málaga and Madrid.
Shortly before 11:00 AM the day after the tragedy,Huelva city council member Gabriel Cruz expressed shock and disbelief upon learning of Toro and Clauss’s disappearance, describing them as “kind and generous” people. “A deep pain for the victims and their families, for the friend who is gone.” Cruz recalled his lucky experiences sharing “many moments of friendship and camaraderie” with Toro, both during Toro’s time as president of the Huelva journalists’ association and as a council member within the socialist group.
