Sweden’s Olympic hockey team has lost a key player ahead of the upcoming tournament. Minnesota Wild defenseman Jonas Brodin will not participate due to a lower-body injury, confirmed by Wild head coach John Hynes.
Brodin, 32, was originally named to the Swedish roster on January 2nd. He has not played since January 12th against the New Jersey Devils. This would have been his first Olympic appearance.
In 42 games this season, Brodin has recorded 15 points and maintains a +13 plus/minus rating.
Sweden is already dealing with injuries to several other players, including William Nylander, Joel Eriksson Ek, Gabriel Landskog, Victor Hedman, and Erik Karlsson.
