Amazon is in talks to invest as much as $50 billion in OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, according to multiple reports. The deal could also involve OpenAI utilizing Amazon’s computing power, Bloomberg News reported. In return, the online retail giant would gain access to OpenAI’s artificial intelligence models.
The Wall Street Journal reports OpenAI is currently valued at $830 billion in its latest funding round. If Amazon commits to the full $50 billion investment, it would contribute roughly half of the $100 billion being sought. Amazon is also a important investor in Anthropic, a competitor to OpenAI that markets an option to ChatGPT called Claude.
