Bloober Team Not Remaking Rule of Rose: New Project Revealed Soon

by Lisa Park - Tech Editor

Bloober Team, the studio behind the 2024 Silent Hill 2 remake and 2025’s Cronos: The New Dawn, recently began teasing its next major project. Speculation quickly arose that the Polish developer might be working on a remake of Rule of Rose, a cult classic psychological horror game released for the PlayStation 2 in 2006. However, Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno has now confirmed that a remake of Rule of Rose is not in development.

The rumors stemmed from a teaser featuring a red rose, imagery reminiscent of the original game’s box art. Babieno addressed the speculation directly in a post on his LinkedIn page, responding to a report on the possibility of a Rule of Rose remake. “Good guess, but no,” he wrote. “It definitely doesn’t refer to any remake.”

This confirmation effectively rules out a remake of Rule of Rose, and also means the teaser isn’t related to the ongoing remake of the original Silent Hill, which Bloober Team is also currently working on in collaboration with Konami. Instead, the studio appears to be focusing on a completely new intellectual property or a sequel to an existing game.

Bloober Team’s recent success with Silent Hill 2 has positioned them as a capable studio for handling beloved, and often challenging, horror franchises. The studio’s CEO has stated the company aims to release large-scale games at a faster pace, capitalizing on the attention gained from the Silent Hill 2 remake. Despite this, Bloober Team seems intent on balancing its work on established franchises with the development of original content.

Prior to the Rule of Rose speculation, Bloober Team released Cronos: The New Dawn, a horror title drawing comparisons to Dead Space. The game was well-received, demonstrating the studio’s ability to create compelling original experiences. The studio is also continuing development on the remake of the first Silent Hill game, again in partnership with Konami.

The countdown featured on Bloober Team’s teaser website, remosdneulserorehsoovamceyerd.com, concludes on . The website features an image of a dripping red rose and distorted audio, further fueling anticipation for the reveal of the new project. The cryptic message on the site reads, “Some things never leave the walls. They only learn to wait.”

While some fans expressed disappointment at the news regarding Rule of Rose, the confirmation that Bloober Team is pursuing original content is viewed positively by many. The studio’s track record suggests they are capable of delivering unique and engaging horror experiences, and the upcoming reveal on is eagerly anticipated.

In February 2023, Bloober Team announced “Project M,” a survival horror title planned as a Nintendo Switch exclusive. It’s possible this project has since been adapted for the newer Nintendo console. Bloober Team filed a trademark in 2024, which was recently updated, potentially revealing the official title of the new project: Onyx: The Dark Grip. However, this remains unconfirmed.

The studio’s approach of balancing remakes with original IPs suggests a long-term strategy of building both upon established brands and creating new ones. This strategy allows Bloober Team to leverage its success while also establishing itself as a creator of innovative horror experiences.
