SLU Track & Field Claims Golds, Records at UAB Invite | Lions Sports

Hammond, Louisiana – The Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) track and field team demonstrated strong performance at the UAB Green and Gold Invite held at the Birmingham CrossPlex on . The meet saw several Lions athletes achieve personal bests and secure podium finishes, signaling a promising start to the indoor season.

Favour Sets School Records

Junior Onyah Favour was the standout performer, claiming two gold medals and setting new school records in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. Favour’s time of 7.39 seconds in the 60-meter dash not only secured the win but also places him tied for second among all Southland Conference athletes in the event. He followed this up with a blistering 200-meter dash, finishing in 24.03 seconds, a time that ranks fourth in the conference.

Medals and Personal Bests

The Lions weren’t limited to Favour’s success. Graduate student Donald Butler earned a bronze medal in the high jump, clearing a height of 2.06 meters (6’9″). Josh-Ty Brown also secured a bronze, achieving a distance of 16.46 meters (54’0″) in the shot put. These performances highlight the team’s depth and competitive spirit.

Beyond the medalists, several athletes achieved personal bests, demonstrating significant individual progress. Romel Williams recorded a personal-best time of 7.31 seconds in the 60-meter dash, finishing 35th. Ian McAlpine also improved his personal best in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 8.92 seconds for a 21st-place finish. Daniel Atinaya posted a personal-best time of 48.79 seconds in the 400-meter dash, earning eighth place. Mya Parker achieved a personal-best time of 2:33.99 in the 800-meter run, finishing 45th.

The momentum continued with Tanner Salsman setting a personal record in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:00.58, finishing 14th. Bryson Thomas rounded out the personal bests with a throw of 12.78 meters (41’11”) in the weight throw, placing 25th.

Looking Ahead to Fayetteville

The Southeastern track and field team will now travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas, to compete in the Tyson Invite, scheduled for and . This meet represents a significant opportunity for the team to continue building momentum and compete against a wider range of opponents.
