Gerindra’s 18th Anniversary: Prabowo Calls for Continued Service to the People | 2026 Update

Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto marked Gerindra Party’s 18th anniversary on February 6, 2026, with a call for continued dedication to the Indonesian people. The President, who also serves as the party’s Chairman, urged all members to remain committed to serving the nation.

Prabowo shared the message via his official Instagram account, @prabowo, on Sunday, February 8, 2026, stating, “18 Years of the @Gerindra Party. Steadfastly fighting, faithfully serving, loyal to the people.”

The President also expressed gratitude to all party members and supporters who have been part of Gerindra’s journey since its founding in 2008. He affirmed the party’s commitment to upholding the trust placed in them by the Indonesian public.

“I thank all cadres and sympathizers who have accompanied this struggle until 2026. We will continue to safeguard this mandate as best we can for the glory of the Red and White [Indonesian flag],” Prabowo said. “Merdeka! Compact, move, and make an impact.”

The anniversary celebrations come as Prabowo’s coalition partners have begun discussing the possibility of his candidacy in the 2029 presidential election, according to reports. This suggests a degree of stability and forward planning within the ruling coalition.

Meanwhile, President Prabowo recently emphasized the importance of unity between religious leaders (ulema) and the government in fostering peace throughout Indonesia. Speaking at the inauguration of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) board for the 2025-2030 period on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Istiqlal Mosque in Central Jakarta, Prabowo stated that a successful nation is one that can achieve peace.

“The presence of religious leaders and government officials today symbolizes unity,” Prabowo said. He expressed pride in serving as president, asserting that he was elected to represent the interests of the Indonesian people. He highlighted Istiqlal Mosque as a symbol of Indonesia’s spirit of independence and sovereignty, stating, “This mosque is a symbol of the spirit of Indonesia as a nation to protect its people.”

The inauguration of the MUI board took place amidst ongoing challenges facing the nation, including recent floods and landslides. In response, a joint prayer was held as part of the inauguration ceremony, led by prominent religious figures including KH Abdul Manan Ghani, KH Mahfud Assirun, Habib Ali bin Abdurrahman Al Habsyi, Habib Ahmad bin Ali Assegaf, and Ustadz Abdul Somad.

Nusron Wahid, Chair of the Organizing Committee and Head of MUI’s Disaster Management Division, explained that the prayer was “a spiritual effort as well as a message of unity and empathy for our brothers and sisters affected by disasters.”

Separately, Gerindra Party Secretary-General Sugiono issued an apology on Friday for the installation of party banners and flags in public spaces, acknowledging the disruption caused to the public. The apology came as the party celebrated its anniversary, indicating a sensitivity to public concerns even during celebratory periods.
