Fraudulent Job Offers Targeting Molina Healthcare Applicants
– Job seekers hoping to work for Molina Healthcare are being targeted by a sophisticated fraud scheme, the company warned today. Third parties are posing as Molina Healthcare recruiters, soliciting money from applicants and extending job offers to candidates who have not participated in a legitimate interview process.
Molina Healthcare is urging applicants to be vigilant and to verify the authenticity of any job offer received if they haven’t actively engaged in an interview process with the company. According to a statement released by Molina, the fraudulent actors are attempting to exploit individuals seeking remote work opportunities.
The company has reported the activity to law enforcement and is advising anyone who believes they may have been victimized to contact their local police department. Molina Healthcare has also provided a dedicated email address, erc@molinahealthcare.com, for individuals to validate the legitimacy of job offers.
This isn’t an isolated incident. Reports have surfaced online detailing similar scams targeting individuals through work-from-home groups. One individual reported on the Better Business Bureau’s Scam Tracker that they were contacted through a work-from-home group by a recruiter claiming to represent Molina Healthcare. The scam involved requests to download Microsoft Teams, followed by requests for sensitive personal information, including name, ID, address, and phone number. The scam culminated in a request for bank routing information under the guise of providing funds for equipment, prompting the applicant to become suspicious.
Another report, shared on Reddit, described a similar scenario. A user applying for a data entry position at Molina Healthcare was contacted via text message for an “interview” and asked for their bank account details. The user became wary and discontinued communication, later realizing the offer was likely a scam after being directed to set up an account on a chat platform.
The scams often involve a seemingly legitimate interview process, followed by a request for banking information to facilitate the purchase of equipment. This tactic is designed to appear authentic and lull applicants into a false sense of security. The Better Business Bureau report indicates the scammers are operating from Long Beach, California, and using the phone number (866)-408-9501.
Molina Healthcare emphasizes that it does not engage in practices that involve soliciting money from job seekers or extending offers to candidates without a formal interview process. The company takes the prevention, detection, and investigation of fraud and abuse seriously, complying with both state and federal laws, according to information on their website.
The Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) advises all organizations and individuals to take proactive steps to protect their devices and systems and to learn how to identify and avoid scams. This latest fraud targeting Molina Healthcare applicants underscores the growing sophistication of online scams and the importance of exercising caution when responding to unsolicited job offers.
Molina Healthcare’s Fraud and Abuse Plan aims to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve the quality of services for its members, providers, and payers. The company’s commitment to combating fraud extends to protecting potential employees from falling victim to these schemes.
Job seekers are advised to independently verify any job offer by contacting Molina Healthcare directly through their official careers website and to be extremely cautious about sharing personal or financial information with unverified sources.
