Search Intensifies for Savannah Guthrie’s Mother, Man Briefly Detained

The search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of “TODAY” show co-host Savannah Guthrie, continues in Arizona, with authorities focusing their efforts after a period of heightened activity involving a person briefly detained for questioning. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department completed a search of a property in Rio Rico, Arizona, south of Tucson, on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, but the investigation remains ongoing.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her home near Tucson the night of January 31, 2026, and was reported missing around noon on February 1, 2026. The FBI is assisting local authorities in the search, releasing security photos and videos depicting a potential subject appearing to tamper with a camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning she disappeared.

The FBI described the potential subject as wearing gloves, a mask, and a backpack. FBI Director Kash Patel stated the individual is believed to be armed. As of yesterday, however, the FBI said it had not identified any suspects or persons of interest in the case.

A man was detained by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department during a traffic stop, according to reports from earlier today. The man, who lives at the house searched by authorities in Rio Rico, stated he was released after several hours of questioning. His connection to the case, if any, remains unclear.

Authorities have stated they are “not aware of any continued communication between the Guthrie family and suspected kidnappers.” This statement came as the search for Nancy Guthrie entered its tenth day.

The investigation began after Nancy Guthrie was dropped off at her home outside Tucson on the evening of January 31st. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance remain under investigation, and officials are urging anyone with information to come forward.

The FBI released images showing the potential subject tampering with the security camera. The timing of the tampering, occurring the morning of February 1st, is a key focus of the investigation.

NewsNation reported on February 3, 2026, that officials were investigating a crime scene in connection with the search for Nancy Guthrie. The nature of that crime scene has not been publicly disclosed.
