Daniel Beichler is the new head coach of Red Bull Salzburg, the Austrian Bundesliga leaders announced Wednesday morning. The appointment comes swiftly after the club parted ways with Thomas Letsch on Tuesday evening. Beichler, 37, has signed a contract with the club that extends through June 30, 2028.
Daniel Beichler will lead FC Red Bull Salzburg moving forward.
Beichler was most recently the coach of FC Liefering, Red Bull Salzburg’s second-tier affiliate. He will take the helm immediately and is scheduled to hold his first training session with the team this afternoon. His debut match is slated for Sunday against LASK, according to reports.
The move to appoint Beichler represents a continuation of the “Salzburg Way,” promoting from within the club’s established system. He is a familiar figure in Austrian football, having previously played for several clubs including Sturm Graz and having represented Austria at the youth levels.
According to Red Bull Salzburg’s official website, Beichler signed a contract until June 30, 2028. The club described him as a “well-known figure” in Austrian football and a former Austrian international.
The change in leadership follows a period of underwhelming results under Thomas Letsch. The club did not elaborate on the specific reasons for Letsch’s departure, but the decision was made after assessing the sporting situation.
Beichler’s appointment marks a new chapter for Red Bull Salzburg as they aim to maintain their position at the top of the Austrian Bundesliga and continue their participation in European competitions. His experience with Liefering and understanding of the club’s philosophy, are expected to facilitate a smooth transition.
Prior to taking the reins at Liefering, Beichler had a varied playing career, featuring stints in Germany with Hertha BSC and loans to clubs like St. Gallen and MSV Duisburg. He also had two spells with Sturm Graz, and finished his playing career with SKN St. Pölten. He transitioned into coaching in 2017, initially with JAZ GU-Süd before returning to Liefering.
