A 28-year-old Malaysian man married a 62-year-old woman 34 years his senior.

Malaysian daily newspaper Harianmetro reported that Rokiya (62), who has 10 children, 22 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson, married Mohammad (28) after a year of commitment.

Mr. Mohammad came to know Mr. Lokiya through social media (SNS) in October 2021. They exchanged messages and became ‘friends’ with whom they could communicate well. However, as time passed, his feelings for Mr. Lokiya, who left his hometown, Semporna in Eastern Sabah for Kelantan to meet her.

Mohammad finally met her in January last year, got engaged in June, and married in September. It’s been a year since we met through social media.

“God’s will is our marriage,” said Lokiya, “It’s not age that’s important to me, but an honest and faithful husband.”

She has been through two marriages and a divorce in the past. After marrying for the first time in 1977, they separated six years ago, and in 2018, they married a Myanmar man for the second time. However, it was difficult to stay away from her husband, who works in China, for a long time, so she divorced again. “This wedding will be the last in my life,” he said.

Despite the age gap of 34 years with Mohammad, both families celebrated their wedding. “She is my destiny,” Mohammad said, “My life is complete because of her caring wife, and I am grateful to God for having such a perfect wife.”

Meanwhile, netizens posted comments such as “It’s a marriage with a man his son’s age, but it’s something to celebrate anyway” and “Age is no barrier to a fateful meeting.”
