A Comparison of Old and New GPUs: Benchmarking Major Models

The release of the GeForce RTX 4060, the latest addition to the GeForce RTX 40 series, may seem like a brief pause in the generational shift that began with the GeForce RTX 4090 last fall. While much attention is focused on the performance of these new generation GPUs, the affordability of the older generation GPUs, which have seen price reductions, is also drawing renewed interest. The once astronomical prices of video cards have finally subsided, providing a welcome relief for those in the high-end to mid-range market.

In light of the growing attention towards both old and new generation products, an opportunity arises to compare over 20 different video cards with their respective GPUs. By utilizing benchmark software and popular game titles, a comprehensive analysis can be conducted to determine which GPU model best suits the performance needs of each individual, based on their specific environment.

The benchmark validation for this analysis is under the supervision of Katsuaki Kato, a respected technical writer known as KTU. Conducting the interview is Mr. Toshiya Takahashi, who has gained the moniker of the “remodeling idiot”. Ensuring smooth discussions and facilitating the event as a moderator is Kentaro Toyama, the esteemed editor-in-chief of DOS/V POWER REPORT. A live demonstration will be carried out in a designated environment equipped with the GPUs in question.

A Comprehensive Comparison of Major GPUs through Benchmarks

The following major GPUs will be compared using benchmark tests:

  • GeForce RTX 4090
  • GeForce RTX 4080
  • GeForce RTX 4070 Ti
  • GeForce RTX 4070
  • GeForce RTX 4060 Ti (8GB)
  • GeForce RTX 3090
  • GeForce RTX 3080
  • GeForce RTX 3070
  • GeForce RTX 3060
  • GeForce RTX 3050
  • GeForce GTX 1650
  • Radeon RX 7900 XTX
  • Radeon RX 7900 XT
  • Radeon RX 7600
  • Radeon RX 6950 XT
  • Radeon RX 6800 XT
  • Radeon RX 6750 XT
  • Radeon RX 6650 XT
  • Radeon RX 6500 XT
  • Radeon RX 6400
  • Arc A770
  • Arc A380

Are the new RTX 40 model GPUs offering improved cost performance? When is it appropriate to consider purchasing an older model? And what significance do Radeon and Intel Arc hold in this context? These are the pressing questions that will be addressed and answered.

The generational change to the GeForce RTX 40 series that started with the GeForce RTX 4090 last fall, but the GeForce RTX 4060, launched the other day, gives the impression of taking a break. Although these new generation GPUs are mostly talked about in terms of performance, the old generation GPUs, which have improved their affordability due to price reductions, are also attracting attention again. It’s good news that the once-prominent spike in video card prices has subsided, just in time for the very high-end to mid-range.

Now that old and new generation products are attracting attention, let’s collect more than 20 types of video cards with old and new GPUs and compare them all at once using benchmark software and real game titles. Delivery will start at 21:00 on Tuesday, July 24th. In the game, the frame rate is measured for all resolutions from full HD, WQHD, and 4K, so you can perfectly understand which model of GPU meets the performance you need in the environment that suits you.
