Publisher rokaplay select and Shochiku Games, alongside developer Mipumi Games, announced A Game About Digging A Hole Together on September 30. The title serves as a multiplayer sequel to the minimalist simulation hit A Game About Digging A Hole, bringing cross-platform cooperative excavation to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 in the winter of 2026 with an estimated price of $5.99.
Multiplayer Expansion and Cross-Platform Play
The sequel builds on the core gameplay loop of the original title—digging, selling resources, upgrading equipment, and digging deeper—while adding support for up to four players in online cooperative sessions. According to official statements from the publishers, the new installment addresses player feedback from the first game by introducing multiplayer functionality alongside new terrain types, tools, hidden items, and underground secrets. The game will support 14 languages, including Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, English, and Korean.
Development Background and Rebuilt Codebase
The original A Game About Digging A Hole originated as a solo developer’s project created in a few weeks, drawing inspiration from Voxel technology experiments during the development of Solarpunk. That initial title went on to sell more than 1.3 million copies globally. For the sequel, the original creator partnered with Mipumi Games, a studio that previously handled console and mobile ports for the first game. Mipumi Games brings extensive industry experience to the project, having contributed development work to titles such as Alan Wake 2, Control, Hitman, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Over the preceding months, Mipumi Games completely rebuilt the game’s codebase from scratch to ensure smoother performance and stable cross-platform networking.
Deep Underground Secrets and Winter Release Schedule
Beyond cooperative digging and equipment upgrades, the development team indicated that players will uncover unprecedented secrets and an ultimate treasure buried deep beneath the surface. The release window is set for the winter of 2026, with further details regarding the exact launch date expected soon from rokaplay select and Shochiku Games.
