The customizable trailer starts at $157,500 and features an electric-powered motor system designed to reduce the load on towing vehicles and extend driving range.
Design and Features of the AE.1 Trailer
The AE.1 measures 10 feet tall in Camp Mode with large windows and headroom, and compresses to under 7 feet in Road Mode for improved aerodynamics while traveling. Inside, the model includes a cushioned lounge area, a full bathroom and shower, and a kitchen outfitted with a two-burner stove, a refrigerator and freezer, a microwave, and a hidden compact dishwasher. The vehicle can sleep up to six people and offers storage options throughout the cabin. Most operational features of the trailer, such as lighting, an auto-leveling system, and a motorized awning, are controlled via a dedicated mobile app. A rooftop solar array captures energy, enabling the trailer to run off the grid for about a week when power and air conditioning use are managed carefully. The unit supports both standard EV charging hookups and the 220-volt connections commonly found at RV parks, while also providing vehicle-to-load power capabilities for external devices. Available options include a pull-down bed attached to the ceiling and a 4K video projector setup.
Engineering Roots and Market Positioning
Colorado-based Lightship was founded by Ben Parker and Toby Krauss, both former Tesla employees. Parker worked as a battery engineer in California and conceived the company after taking an RV trip during the pandemic, while Krauss worked in finance and product management. Parker noted that the traditional RV market has long been dominated by a few consolidated manufacturers offering unchanging designs, leaving an opening for modern alternatives.

Manufacturing Expansion in Colorado
Lightship operates out of Broomfield, Colorado, where it is expanding its manufacturing facilities to support increased trailer output. Alongside the AE.1, the company produces a mobile electric platform called PowerSled, which sells to commercial clients such as movie productions needing portable electric power without a trailer housing.
