Google is rolling out a suite of artificial intelligence tools for Android designed to block complex financial scams in real time, Giga reported. The security updates target fraudulent calls, deceptive text messages, and malicious chat apps using on-device and cloud-based intelligence.

Enhanced Protection Mode in Google Messages

The centerpiece of the update is an optional erweiterter Schutzmodus inside the Google Messages app, which Giga detailed in its report. When activated, a cloud-based artificial intelligence model analyzes complex conversation histories with unknown numbers to detect hidden fraud intents. Google stated that this analysis occurs inside a private and encrypted environment. BornCity reported that the feature is available in beta version 20261020_00_RC00 and replaces the standard spam toggle with a three-tier protection menu.

Complementing the cloud analysis, the on-device Gemini Nano model scans unknown links directly on the handset using real-time web signals. BornCity noted that this local link protection identifies phishing websites that do not appear on standard blocklists. Ad-hoc-news.de reported that this local tool is available on select hardware including Google Pixel 10 devices, Samsung Galaxy S26, Z Flip 8, and Z Fold 8 models.

Blocking Call Diversion and Securing Shared Screens

Beyond messaging, Google is introducing telephony safeguards to prevent criminals from exploiting call forwarding. Futurezone reported that the system blocks the unauthorized background activation of call forwarding to intercept one-time passwords, and issues warnings if users manually input suspicious codes. According to futurezone.de, this protection launches in December for Pixel devices and expands to other hardware.

Android 15 introduces a dedicated shield for screen sharing sessions. Giga and futurezone.de reported that whenever users enter passwords or banking credentials during a remote screen share, those sensitive fields automatically become invisible to other participants. Caschys Blog noted that Android 15 and older versions also receive a safeguard during active phone calls that blocks apps from requesting suspicious accessibility permissions.

Wider Rollout and Verified Financial Calls

Google is expanding existing Pixel features to hundreds of millions of additional devices. Giga reported that chat-benachrichtigungen fraud detection is extending to hardware from Xiaomi, Motorola, and OnePlus. Ad-hoc-news.de added that brands including Honor, Oppo, realme, and vivo will also receive the protections by the end of the year.

In partnership with financial institutions, Google developed a verified calls system. Giga and futurezone.de reported that the tool checks in real time whether an incoming call from a purported bank is authentic. Futurezone.de noted that the feature requires Android 11 or newer and a supported banking partner, having already blocked over three million fake calls in Brazil alongside initial partners Banco do Brasil, Itaú Unibanco, and Revolut.

Upcoming Deployment Schedule and Unresolved Questions

The extended protection mode in Google Messages began rolling out in the weeks following its public introduction on October 15, 2026. Futurezone.de noted that background call forwarding blocks and manual code warnings are scheduled to arrive on Pixel smartphones starting in early December 2026.

Industry observers have raised questions regarding the new security tools. Ad-hoc-news.de reported that analysts are monitoring false-alarm rates, practical utility, reliability across mixed-language inputs such as English, Hindi, and Roman scripts, and user acceptance of cloud-based data processing.

Wider Ecosystem Adjustments and Concern Rates

According to a survey conducted by Google in partnership with the market research institute YouGov among smartphone users in the United States, Canada, and Australia, 40 percent of respondents stated that they are very or extremely concerned about phone fraud.

Users who frequently download apps or games will also notice a change in download progress. Instead of showing only a percentage display, the Play Store starting from version 53.7 optionally shows the estimated remaining time or the outstanding data volume.
