A Letter to My Uncle: Unveiling Hidden Truths and Unspoken Words
Letter to Uncle: Reflections on Current Events
Dear Uncle,
I know that in your country, Burkina Faso, the Ouagadougou International Crafts Fair (SIAO) and the Tour du Faso have been in full swing since October 25. I’m very happy about this because, despite adversity, the country has been able to show the world that it remains healthy and truly reliable. This is a testament to the courage and resilience of the authorities and the people as a whole.
In Côte d’Ivoire, the census for the 2024-2025 electoral list review campaign has begun. The operation started on October 19, 2024, and is set to end on November 10. According to several sources, a few days after the launch, voters are still waiting. The call launched by the president of the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI) for the flawless mobilization and momentum of citizens and republicans to bring the operation to a successful conclusion has not been heard. It is essential that citizens participate in this process to expand the electoral body, which currently has only 8 million registered voters out of 12.5 million citizens of voting age.
The Crisis in the Middle East and its Impact on Côte d’Ivoire
The crisis in the Middle East, particularly between Lebanon and Israel, is affecting Côte d’Ivoire. The Ivorian State has decided to return its nationals and the diplomatic corps living in Lebanon due to the increase in tension between the Israeli army and Hezbollah fighters. The first returnees arrived in the homeland last Friday and Saturday, and the rest are expected in the coming days.
Making the African Union a “Dike of Peace”
The meetings of the 15th High Level Retreat on promoting peace, security, and stability in Africa, organized by the African Union, ended on October 26 in Abidjan. The meetings resulted in a statement entitled “Declaration of Abidjan,” a founding document that expresses the unanimous desire of African states to strengthen preventive diplomacy and mediation as pillars of continental peace. The African organization must now position itself as a “dike of peace” to give hope for Africa to leave a safer world for future generations.
On this note, I bid you farewell. Happy All Saints’ Day in advance. May all our deceased rest in peace!
Your nephew
