A two-day event on the occasion of 25th Baishakh at Rabindra Kuthibari in Shilaidh

On the occasion of the 163rd birth anniversary of the world poet Rabindranath Tagore, a two-day long program has been organized at Shilaidah Kuthibari in Kushtia.

From Wednesday (25 Baisakh), the two-day program includes discussions, music, recitals, plays and village fairs. Rabindranath Tagore used to come to Shilaidha in Kushtia to manage the zamindari. The rural lifestyle and Bauliana here add a different dimension to his literature.

It is said that Kushtia’s idea of God of Life came from this Shilaidah. In Shilaidah village of Padmapara, the poet’s ruined hut is still standing almost intact. Ravi Tagore used to return to this cottage in Kushtia again and again because of the quiet environment, zamindari and business. The precious time of the poet’s life was spent in this remote area. He translated Gitanjali’s poetry into English while sitting here. Which brought him the Nobel Prize and the status of world poet. He also wrote numerous timeless literatures including our national anthem while sitting here. Various memories of those days are preserved in Kuthibari.

Rabindra researchers, devotees and visionaries demand that Kuthibari should be developed as a full-fledged tourist center to increase the facilities for tourists.

Al-Amin, the custodian of Shilaidah Kuthibari, said that due to the heat, the three-day event is now being held in two days. Bangladesh Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbub Ul Alam Hanif MP will inaugurate the programme. Abdur Rauf will be the local MP. Tight security arrangements have been made to ensure the event goes smoothly. Keeping in mind the intense heat wave, 4 new tubewells have been installed to ensure fresh water for the visitors. As usual, there is a team of doctors and servants.

This year is being organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Directorate of Archeology and District Administration. A village fair is already held around Kuthibari.
