Abdul Ruman, a 25-year-old worker from Bangladesh, died on May 25, 2023, at a worksite in Trezzano sul Naviglio during his very first hour on his very first day of employment, milano.corriere.it reported. The worker was killed while moving three industrial die-cutting machines, each weighing two tons, inside a warehouse. More than three years later, his family has not received any compensation as multiple companies, insurers, and public agencies dispute liability.
The Fatal Operation at Trezzano sul Naviglio
The incident occurred when Ruman was sent by his employer, Crocolux srl, alongside a fellow compatriot to assist a worker from another firm, Abv Trasporti srl. Crocolux had hired Abv Trasporti to move the heavy die-cutting machines between warehouses. During the operation, the machinery tipped over and crushed Ruman against a warehouse wall.
A criminal case was initiated by prosecutor Maura Ripamonti under the charge of negligent homicide against the two employers. That trial is scheduled to establish formal criminal responsibilities in February. In the civil and financial aftermath, however, compensation claims have stalled amid competing denials from the firms involved.
Conflicting Liability Claims and Insurance Deadlocks
The companies connected to the site have shifted blame for the accident. Crocolux maintains it bears no responsibility because it contracted a specialized moving firm, Abv Trasporti, to handle the installation. Abv Trasporti points the finger at its own employee who operated the hydraulic hammer to lift the machinery before it overturned.
Magistrates handling the case noted that the worker operating the equipment had been provided with unsuitable materials and zero training, milano.corriere.it reported. Insurance and state compensation channels have similarly stalled. Unipol stated that the formal hiring notification for Ruman had not yet been transmitted prior to the accident, arriving only afterward, which the insurer argues invalidates the policy for an undefined employment relationship.
The worker had recently married in Bangladesh, but his wife has not yet been formally regularized in administrative records, leaving her stuck for two years in an impasse over obtaining a tax code.
Legal Proceedings Scheduled for February
The family of the victim, represented in legal proceedings by attorney Simone Briatore, continues to seek financial restitution without success. The pending criminal trial in February remains the primary legal avenue expected to clarify accountability among the corporate entities and individuals involved in the site operations on the day of the fatal accident.
