High temperatures pushed above normal levels across northeast Florida and southeast Georgia on May 16, 2026, bringing breezy conditions and significant heat to inland regions.

According to News4JAX meteorologist Michelle McCormick, temperatures in inland areas climbed into the lower to middle 90s on May 16.

Regions along the I-95 corridor experienced slightly cooler conditions, with high temperatures holding in the upper 80s.

Coastal areas remained the coolest, with beaches seeing highs in the upper 70s and low 80s, supported by an onshore breeze.

Wind Conditions and Coastal Safety

A southeast breeze persisted throughout the afternoon of May 16, creating breezy conditions across the region.

Sustained winds were recorded around 15 mph, with gusts reaching up to 25 mph at times.

Ocean conditions remained dangerous for swimmers due to a high rip current risk. While water temperatures were 77 degrees, officials advised individuals to stay near a lifeguard.

Overnight and Early Morning Forecast

Weather conditions transitioned overnight from May 16 to May 17, as isolated, non-severe inland storms faded after sunset.

The overnight period was characterized by mostly fair skies and temperatures that remained slightly above normal.

Overnight lows dropped into the mid to upper 60s across inland areas and the lower 70s along the Atlantic Coast.

Meteorologists noted that patchy fog was possible near sunrise on May 17.
