According to a survey in Bavaria, free voters are shooting up

The leaflet affair apparently benefited one party in the Bavarian election campaign in particular: the Free Voters. Their party leader was at the center of the allegations of anti-Semitism.

The leaflet affair surrounding Bavaria’s Deputy Prime Minister Hubert Aiwanger has apparently benefited his party, the Free Voters: According to a survey commissioned by “Bild”, the party has gained four percentage points and is now at 15 percent.

In the survey by the opinion research institute Insa, the CSU came to 37 percent, one point less than in July. The Greens also lose a point and end up at 14 percent. The SPD loses two percent, comes to only nine percent, the FDP would not be in the state parliament with only four percent (minus one point). The AfD remains unchanged at 14 percent.

The CSU and Free Voters could thus continue to govern together. A black-green alliance would also be possible, but is rejected by the CSU and Prime Minister Markus Söder. On October 8th there will be elections in the Free State.

Head of survey institute: Aiwanger probably used allegations

According to the “wahlrecht.de” portal, the survey was taken between last Friday and Tuesday (September 5). Hermann Binkert, head of the survey institute, told the newspaper that the allegations against the chairman and leading candidate Aiwanger had obviously benefited the free voters.

Aiwanger had initially denied in writing that he had written an anti-Semitic leaflet when he was at school, which the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” had reported on. At the same time, he admitted that “one or a few copies” were found in his school bag. Shortly thereafter, his brother accused himself of being the author.

As a result, more and more allegations were made, partly anonymously, about Aiwanger’s behavior at the time. After several days he apologized, but at the same time went on the counterattack and bemoaned a political campaign against him. But Söder sticks to him: A dismissal would not be proportionate, Söder said on Sunday.
