Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi is applauding billionaire Bill ackman’s roughly $2 billion investment in the company. Khosrowshahi, speaking at the Bloomberg Tech summit in San Francisco, characterized Ackman as a “legendary investor” whose involvement has spurred new feature growth.
Ackman, who revealed his stake in Uber this past February, has been actively engaging with the product. Khosrowshahi noted that Ackman provides valuable feedback, even speaking with Uber drivers. One such instance involved Ackman’s difficulty in ordering multiple Ubers simultaneously, wich led Uber to develop a new feature addressing this issue.
“I’ve always admired Bill, so when we found out he was a shareholder, it was like, ‘Right on,’” Khosrowshahi said. “We’ve got a great relationship.”
Ackman himself has expressed admiration for uber, stating in a February post on X that he is a “long-term customer and admirer.” His hedge fund, Pershing Square, currently holds 30.3 million shares in the company.Ackman has lauded Khosrowshahi’s leadership, calling Uber “one of the best managed and highest quality businesses in the world.”
Uber is also expanding its reach in the autonomous vehicle (AV) sector. The company has partnered with Waymo to offer self-driving taxis in Austin and Atlanta and invested in Wayve, a U.K.-based AV startup. Khosrowshahi believes this will broaden access to safe transportation in cities.
Furthermore,Uber is exploring new opportunities for its drivers and couriers through A.I.-related “knowledge work,” such as labeling maps and translating languages. Khosrowshahi anticipates this type of work will become a meaningful source of income for its contractors in the coming years.
What’s next
With Ackman’s support and ongoing investments in technology, Uber aims to further innovate its services and expand its market reach, focusing on both autonomous driving and creating new income streams for its workforce.
