Sony Pictures Animation has confirmed that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will pick up immediately after the events of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, continuing the story of Miles Morales as he remains trapped in an alternate dimension following the cliffhanger ending of the second film.

The confirmation comes as part of Sony’s presentation at CinemaCon 2026, where the studio unveiled new footage from the upcoming film, which is set for release in 2027. According to the presentation, the story resumes the exact moment that Across the Spider-Verse concluded, with Miles Morales stranded in a reality where he is mistaken for a variant of himself and captured by a version of his uncle Aaron Davis, who operates as the Prowler in that universe.

In the footage shown at CinemaCon, Miles is depicted as being tied up and attempting to negotiate his freedom when he encounters another version of himself from a different dimension. This alternate Miles, who identifies himself as “The Prowler,” engages in a confrontation with the primary Miles over differences in pronunciation of their shared surname and contrasting fashion choices, highlighting the multiversal theme central to the franchise.

The scene escalates as the two versions of Miles come to blows, but the original Miles refrains from causing harm, stating he does not wish to hurt his captors. The confrontation culminates in an electrical surge that allows him to break free, setting up further exploration of his efforts to return to his own reality and confront the growing threat posed by The Spot, a villain born from his own actions in the first film.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the franchise’s writer-producers, described Beyond the Spider-Verse as “the most emotional Spider-Verse film we have ever made” and “the most spectacular,” emphasizing the film’s narrative depth and visual ambition. Directors Justin K. Thompson and Bob Persichetti joined them on stage to present the footage, underscoring the creative continuity between the installments.
