An Act MP has criticised a Green Party candidate over a now-deleted social media post that made light of the death of right-wing speaker Charlie Kirk.
The post, published by Michel Mulipola, the Green Party candidate for Māngere, appeared on his Instagram account in September 2025 after Kirk’s death. It depicted a cartoon image of a bleeding neck with the text “Charlie Kirk died as he lived” and the caption “talkin’ out the side of his neck.” The accompanying statement read: “I’m not obligated to respect someone who wrapped their bigotry, racism, White supremacy, queerphobia, misogyny et al.”
The post was deleted after Newstalk ZB sent a media request to the Green Party. Mulipola, who is also an activist, comic book artist, and professional wrestler, stated that he is known for strong takes on social media and was responding to a significant global event. He added that as a Green Party candidate, he is now taking the party’s kaupapa into account and does not want distractions from the campaign to bring progressive change to South Auckland.
An Act MP described the post as “grossly inappropriate.” The Green Party’s co-leaders were approached for comment but said Mulipola’s statement covered all the party needed to say.
The post was hosted on Mulipola’s Instagram account, bloodysamoan, which includes a disclaimer in its bio stating that the views expressed are his own, with an authorisation statement from the Green Party.
