Xiaomi smartphones include a security feature designed to automatically lock the screen when the device detects potential theft, helping protect user data if the phone is taken without permission. This functionality, known as Theft Detection Lock, activates when the system senses the device has been snatched and is in motion, such as when someone runs away with it.
To enable this protection, users must first set up a screen lock method through the device settings. This involves navigating to Settings, selecting Google, then All services, and choosing Theft protection. Within this menu, users can add a screen lock using a pattern, PIN, or password, which is required before activating the theft detection features.
Once a screen lock is configured, users can enable Theft Detection Lock, which triggers an automatic screen lock if the phone detects it has been stolen and is being carried away. The Offline Device Lock feature can be activated to secure the device shortly after it loses connectivity, preventing unauthorized access even if the thief attempts to disable network services.
These settings are part of Xiaomi’s broader theft protection suite, which also includes tools for locating the device, making it ring, or locking it remotely via Xiaomi Cloud. The features are intended to minimize the risk of data exposure and unauthorized use following a theft incident.
