Actor eric Dane, 52, known for his role in “Euphoria,” is facing amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a progressive disease affecting nerve cells. Dane revealed his ALS diagnosis in april and recently discussed its impact. He noted the disease has significantly affected his motor skills.
Dane said his right side is no longer functioning, and he anticipates losing function in his left hand soon. The “GrayS Anatomy” alum first noticed symptoms over a year ago, initially attributing weakness in his right hand to overuse. Though, the symptoms worsened, leading to a nine-month diagnostic process involving multiple specialists.
The actor expressed concern about the disease possibly affecting his legs. He recounted a recent incident where his daughter had to help him return to a boat while snorkeling, as he lacked the strength to swim back.
Dane also shared his emotional distress regarding his daughters. He fears he may not be able to see them grow up, a sentiment amplified by the early loss of his own father.
Despite the challenges of living with ALS, Dane remains resolute to continue working. He has returned to the set of “Euphoria” and is set to appear in the Prime Video series “Countdown,” which premieres June 25. He is committed to fighting the disease and maintaining a positive outlook.
