Actress Kim Ga-yeon shared a compelling anecdote about reshaping the traditions of her in-laws during a recent appearance on MBN’s ‘Unraveling Show Dongchimi’.
During her interview on the show, Kim revealed how she took the initiative to transform the birthday celebrations for her in-laws after marrying former professional player Lim Yo-hwan.
In her own words, Kim disclosed, “In the first year of marriage, I personally organized an elaborate birthday table for my in-laws, inviting all of our relatives to join in the celebration.”
She further explained, “After the meal, I stood up and made a declaration. I conveyed that the traditional birthday feasts at home would be replaced with dining out. This marked a significant shift, as prior to this, my mother-in-law had been responsible for setting the table.”
Kim’s bold move received praise from the ‘Dongchimi’ panelists, who commended her for her wisdom and savvy approach as a daughter-in-law.
Reflecting on the experience, Kim also revealed, “I was deeply moved when my sisters-in-law pooled their resources to gift me money for the first time. While my decision may have been disappointing to my in-laws, I believe they appreciated the grand gesture I had made.”

On the 11th, Ga-yeon Kim appeared as a guest on MBN’s ‘Unraveling Show Dongchimi’.
Kim Ga-yeon, who has been married to former professional player Lim Yo-hwan for 12 years, said, “I personally prepared the birthday table for my in-laws in the first year of the marriage “I invited all my relatives and threw a party,” she said.
He continued, “At the end of the meal, I held up the microphone and spoke. ‘The birthday prize ends here. From now on, we will eat outside.’ “This is the first and last time I prepare it,” he said, adding, “Before that, my mother-in-law was responsible for setting the table, but from then on, we started eating out .”
The ‘Dongchimi’ panelists were surprised saying, “The culture of the house changed” and “She is a very wise daughter-in-law.”
Ga-yeon Kim also said, “I got so moved on my first birthday that my sisters-in-law saved up and gave me money. My parents-in-law could be disappointed too, but I think they weren’t because I prepared the first prize in a big way.”
