AEW Collision Ratings Dip Despite Return to Saturday Night slot
Table of Contents
AEW Collision saw a slight increase in total viewership upon it’s return to its regular Saturday night timeslot on July 19th, but the key 18-49 demographic experienced a meaningful drop. The show averaged 348,000 total viewers, an 8% bump from the previous week’s pre-empted episode and an 11% increase compared to the 100th episode which also aired in its normal slot. However, this figure still fell 5% short of the trailing four-week average of 368,000 viewers.
Demographic Struggles Plague Collision
While the overall viewership saw a modest rise, the 18-49 demographic, a crucial indicator for advertisers, took a considerable hit. Collision posted a 0.06 rating in this demographic. While this might appear similar to the previous week’s 0.06, it represents a stark 40% decrease from the “Collision 100” episode on July 5th. this latest rating marks the lowest for the show in its regular timeslot since March 1st, when it directly competed with WWE’s Elimination Chamber Premium Live Event.
Collision Ranks Eighth in Prime Time Cable
The dip in the 18-49 demo meant that AEW Collision landed in eighth place for the evening in the prime time cable rankings. The night’s viewership was dominated by the UFC 318 prelims on ESPN, which not only topped the cable charts but also outdrew network telecasts for the entire evening.
In-Ring Action and Notable Moments
The July 19th episode of Collision featured several key moments that may have influenced viewership. Colten Gunn appeared to sustain an injury in his first match back in five months. Following this, Hangman Page faced off against Jon Moxley. After being choked out by Page, Moxley reportedly took out his frustrations on Colt Cabana, hanging him with a steel chain in his first AEW appearance in nearly three years. these dramatic in-ring events, while potentially drawing attention, did not translate into a significant boost in the key demographic.
Looking Ahead for Collision
The performance of AEW Collision on July 19th highlights the ongoing challenge of maintaining consistent viewership, notably in the coveted 18-49 demographic. As the show continues to navigate its broadcast schedule and creative direction, the focus will undoubtedly be on finding ways to recapture the audience that has previously tuned in, especially during its regular Saturday night slot. The competition for eyeballs on a Saturday night remains fierce, and AEW collision will need to deliver compelling content to stand out.
