AEW Fight Forever piled up a financial loss of at least $30 million for All Elite Wrestling, according to industry reporting published in August 2026. Executive editor Mike Straw of Insider Gaming revealed the write-down figures, attributing the heavy deficit to prolonged development cycles and sales that finished well below internal expectations.

Development Delays and Missed Launch Windows

The video game project missed its original 2022 release window, pushing operational costs significantly higher before it finally launched in the summer of 2023 around the time of AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door, according to reporting by Mike Straw covered by SEScoops and eWrestlingNews. Straw explained that prolonged development cycles inherently increase production costs.

Beyond development delays, commercial performance fell short of company targets. Sales for AEW Fight Forever landed at roughly half of what the promotion internally projected, compounding the financial shortfall, according to Mike Reichlin of SEScoops.

Future Outlook for AEW in the Video Game Space

Despite the financial write-down, AEW retains ownership of the Fight Forever game engine and its assets, according to verified reporting. This ownership structure means the promotion could theoretically partner with a different developer down the road, although no agreement is currently in place to keep updating the existing title or to build a sequel.

Straw reported that AEW maintains an interest in returning to the video game space in the future, though any subsequent project remains a distant prospect with nothing currently in development. When questioned about rumors regarding third-party licensing talks, Straw noted that his sources indicated they had no knowledge of such discussions.

The financial update follows structural changes within the promotion, including the January departure of executive Nik Sobic, who had overseen the Fight Forever project since the company’s inception in 2019.
