A newborn baby, handed over to the US military, reunited with his father over a barbed wire fence at Kabul International Airport on the 19th (local time) amid a procession desperately trying to escape from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan. Many Afghan parents, including this father, are throwing their babies at foreign soldiers who stand guard at Kabul’s airport to save their children.

According to the New York Times (NYT), the U.S. Navy said in a statement on the 20th, “The child was transferred to a medical facility in the unit and received professional treatment. I also had a reunion with my father, and now the father and son are staying safely inside the airport.” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby also said at a press conference: “The child’s parents have asked the US Navy to treat the child because he is ill. “I met my father after the child was treated at the hospital at the airport,” he said. The child’s mother is said to be outside the airport with injuries caused by crowds near the airport.

The U.S. Navy released several photos on the same day that U.S. soldiers were meticulously caring for and feeding other babies. However, he did not disclose how many children he was taking care of. Reporter Im Bo-mi bom@donga.com Go to reporter page>
