Reference News Network reported on September 27 that the Afghan Embassy in London was closed on the 27th. This development comes after Taliban authorities severed ties with diplomatic missions established by the previous government in Kabul and dismissed British staff at the embassy.
A notice on the door of the consular office stated, ”The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan is closed.” Despite the closure, the flag remained flying. Earlier this month, Afghan ambassador to the UK, Zalmay Rasool, announced on social platforms that the embassy would be closed on September 27 ”at the formal request of the host country.”
The British Foreign Office denied any involvement in the closure of the Afghan embassy. A spokesman stated, ”This decision was not made by the British government. The Afghan government decided to close the country’s embassy in London and lay off its staff.”
The closure of the embassy marks a significant development in the diplomatic relations between Afghanistan and the UK. The Taliban’s decision to sever ties with diplomatic missions established by the previous government has raised concerns about the future of Afghanistan’s international relations.
