Afrika Bambaataa Faces Default Judgment in Sex Trafficking Lawsuit
Hip-hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa, also known as lance Taylor, has lost a lawsuit by default after failing to respond to accusations of sexual abuse and sex trafficking. The suit, filed in 2021 by a man identified as John Doe, alleges abuse occurred between 1991 and 1995, when Doe was a minor.
Judge Alexander M. tisch granted the default judgment “without opposition,” according to New York court records. The court will now refer the assessment of damages against Lance Taylor to a special referee for inquest.
The Afrika Bambaataa sex trafficking lawsuit follows earlier accusations against Bambaataa. In 2016, Ronald Savage publicly accused Bambaataa of sexual abuse in the 1980s. Bambaataa denied those claims, but more men afterward came forward with similar allegations. He has largely remained out of the public eye as then.
Attorneys for John Doe,Hugo G.Ortega and Rehan Nazrali, have been contacted for comment.
What’s next
The special referee will determine the amount of damages Bambaataa must pay John Doe. The outcome of this assessment remains to be seen.
