As of ⁣August 17, 2025, a harrowing case of a hit-and-run accident⁤ in Maharashtra has reached a swift resolution thanks to the innovative use of artificial⁤ intelligence. The Nagpur Police ‍have‍ successfully apprehended the suspect responsible for the death of⁣ a woman, following a widely circulated video that ⁣sparked outrage across India.

A week⁤ ago, a video surfaced online depicting⁣ Amit Yadav carrying the body of his wife along ⁢a highway after she was struck by a truck. Yadav claimed he was forced to⁤ transport her remains ⁣this way after receiving no assistance from passersby on the Nagpur-Jabalpur national highway on August 9.The deeply disturbing footage⁣ quickly went viral, highlighting both the tragedy⁤ of the ‍accident and the apparent lack of immediate aid.

Though, the inquiry rapidly progressed with ⁣the assistance of cutting-edge technology. Deolapar Police utilized‍ AI-MARVEL – the Maharashtra advanced⁣ Research and Vigilance for Enhanced ⁣Law Enforcement system -⁢ to analyze hours of CCTV ⁤footage from toll plazas.

“we used AI algorithms developed at MARVEL to analyze four hours of footage from three ‍toll nakas,” explained Harssh A Poddar⁣ to the Indian Express. “The⁢ first algorithm sieved⁣ out all the red trucks, and the second algorithm ⁢did a speed-based calculation of these trucks to identify which truck could be involved.⁤ On ⁣the basis⁣ of the AI alert generated,‍ we arrested the accused yesterday from 700 km away ⁣near Kanpur.”

The ⁣driver was identified as Satyapal Rajendra,a 28-year-old⁣ resident of ⁣Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh. ‍His truck was impounded on August 16, and he is now in police custody, according to reports from the Press Trust of India (PTI).

This case ⁣underscores a growing trend: the ‍integration of AI in law enforcement. As cities become increasingly monitored by CCTV cameras, AI-powered analytical tools are proving invaluable in swiftly identifying suspects and solving crimes. The success ⁢in Nagpur demonstrates the potential for similar technologies ⁣to ‍enhance public safety and bring closure to victims and ⁢their families across India. The use of AI in this instance not only delivered justice in a timely manner but also sends a clear‍ message that such actions⁣ will⁤ not be tolerated, even across ⁢vast distances.
