SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won said, “There is a high possibility that the artificial intelligence market ‘large expansion’ due to the emergence of the next-generation chat GPT will arrive around 2027.” He added, “If SK wants to seize growth opportunities without missing that period, it must make ongoing ‘operational improvements.’ “We need to complete it quickly,” he said.

According to SK Group, Chairman Choi made this statement in the closing speech of the ‘2024 CEO Seminar’ held at the SKMS Research Center in Icheon, Gyeonggi-do from the 31st of last month to yesterday.

In particular, SK Group decided to speed up the portfolio restructuring and ‘operational improvement’ that have been underway since the beginning of this year and focus on strengthening its fundamental competitiveness using AI (artificial intelligence).

Chairman Choi said, “‘Operation improvement’ does not simply mean cost reduction and efficiency, but the process of securing fundamental competitiveness,” adding, “Entrepreneurship and understanding are invisible and unmeasured, but are core elements of management that do not appear in financial statements. He emphasized, “We need to focus on communication with stakeholders.”

At the same time, he said, “There is a need to make good use of artificial intelligence to advance ‘operational improvement,'” and suggested ways for young members and leaders to improve operations by incorporating AI and provide compensation commensurate with the performance.
