According to Sacramento Fire Department officials, the helicopter “augured into the dirt embankment” on the side of the highway, damaging its tail rotor and skidding across five lanes of traffic. The first fire captain on the scene, with the assistance of approximately 15 bystanders, used leverage to lift a portion of the helicopter off a victim who was trapped underneath. another victim was rescued from a helicopter chair that had been ejected during the impact.
All three crew members – two women and one man - were transported to a local hospital in critical condition, as reported by authorities.
