Air India Flight Crashes in Ahmedabad, Killing 246

An Air India ‍ flight crashed‍ shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on
Thursday,⁢ killing 246 people. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner,
⁢ ⁤ bound for the United Kingdom, had 230 passengers and 12 crew members aboard.The plane ​ crashed into a building near the airport.

The airline reported that the flight, ​which departed at 1:38 p.m. local time,carried 242 passengers and crew.
The manifest included 169 Indian, 53 British, one‍ Canadian, and seven Portuguese nationals.

Among the victims⁣ were 241 passengers and crew,along with five medical⁣ students inside the hospital struck by
​ ​ the aircraft.Hospital officials confirmed that numerous others inside the building sustained injuries, some
⁣ ‌severe, and are receiving medical attention.

One passenger,Vishwaskumar Ramesh,survived the crash and is being treated at Civil
⁣ Hospital in Ahmedabad. His brother,Nayankumar Ramesh,called his survival ‍a “miracle” but expressed worry
about their other brother,who was also on the flight.

Nayankumar Ramesh recounted his brother’s harrowing experience: “Our plane’s crashed, I don’t know where my
‍ brother is. I don’t see any other passengers.I don’t know how I’m alive, how I exited the plane.” He added,
⁤ “Just hearing about the ⁣crash,I’m scared to ‌fly now,to even stay on a plane now.”

Authorities initially reported no expected survivors.Indian Home Minister Amit‌ Shah stated that the process of
recovering bodies is nearly complete, and⁤ DNA profiling of victims’ families will commence soon. The aircraft
‌ ​ contained approximately 125,000 liters of fuel,and high temperatures hindered immediate rescue efforts,Shah
​ said.

Police Commissioner G.S. Malik reported that the plane crashed in the Meghaninagar area near Ahmedabad airport.
Prior to this incident, Boeing Dreamliner planes had not been involved in⁢ crashes​ with passenger fatalities.
According to aviation analytics firm Cirium, this​ particular aircraft had logged over 41,000 flight hours,
considered average for its⁣ type.

‌ well as ‌everyone affected in Ahmedabad. I have spoken with Air India Chairman N. ​Chandrasekaran to offer‍ our

The Directorate General of ​Civil Aviation stated that the aircraft “fell on the ground outside the airport
⁤ ⁣ ‍ perimeter” promptly ⁢after takeoff. Video footage showed the plane descending below the tree line, followed by
an explosion and thick smoke.

The captain had 8,200 hours of flying experience,while the copilot had 1,100 hours,according ⁤to the
⁢ ‌Directorate ‌General.

The Central Industrial ​Security Force released images showing emergency personnel working to ⁤extinguish the
‌ ‌flaming wreckage. one photo depicted the damaged tail ⁤of the plane partially ‍inside a building.
