All but one of the 242 passengers and crew perished; the sole survivor is a 40-year-old British man.

India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is leading the inquiry into the cause of the crash. Teams from the united States and the United Kingdom are assisting. Civil ⁤Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said the recovery of the black box on Friday would ‍”significantly aid the inquiry.”

The ‍plane,a Boeing dreamliner 787-8,crashed less than a minute after departing Sardar ⁣Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. It struck a building near BJ Medical College and Civil Hospital, which served as doctors’ accommodations. Dr.Dhaval Gameti, president of the ⁢junior Doctors’ Association, confirmed the hospital received 270 bodies, with 241 believed⁢ to be those of flight AI171 passengers and crew. More than 30 victims have been identified through DNA.

Flightradar24 data indicates the 11-year-old aircraft had flown ⁤the Ahmedabad-London Gatwick ⁤route 25 times in the past two years.
