A tragic Air India crash near Ahmedabad, India, has claimed the life of Nirali Patel, a Canadian dentist.Patel was the only Canadian national aboard the London-bound flight, according to CTV News. The Air India disaster has prompted an outpouring of grief and support.
Patel resided in Etobicoke and practiced at a dental clinic in Mississauga. She earned her dental degree in India in 2016 and obtained her license to practice in Canada in 2019, according to the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario.
Her husband told The Canadian Press he had been planning to book a flight for himself and their one-year-old child to join her in India. The Air India flight 171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, was carrying 242 passengers, including 53 British nationals.
The aircraft crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad Airport in Gujarat. CCTV footage reportedly shows the plane losing control before rapidly descending.
