Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson reached a significant career milestone Wednesday night, becoming the fastest player in WNBA history to score 5,000 points. The three-time MVP achieved this feat during the Aces’ 85-59 victory over the connecticut Sun at Michelob Ultra Arena.
Wilson reached the 5,000-point mark in her 238th game,surpassing Breanna Stewart (242 games),Diana Taurasi (243 games),and Angel McCoughtry (257 games). She is the 28th player in WNBA history to achieve this scoring milestone. Taurasi, who retired earlier this year after 20 seasons with the Phoenix Mercury, remains the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer with 10,646 points.
Needing seven points to reach 5,000, Wilson scored her seventh and eighth points with a layup late in the second quarter. The crowd erupted in celebration, displaying signs that read “5,000.” Wilson, maintaining her composure, received congratulations from teammates and opposing players.
Wilson finished the game with 22 points, eight rebounds, four assists, four steals, and three blocks. The Aces, with a 7-7 record, have now won two consecutive games after a previous slump.
